ITW Insulation Systems Announces New Phenolic Insulation Product Offering

November 23, 2009

NEW PHENOLIC INSULATION PRODUCT OFFERING
FROM ITW INSULATION SYSTEMS

To our valued fabricators and distributors;

ITW Insulation Systems is pleased to announce the addition of Trymer™ Green Phenolic Insulation to our growing lineup of products for use in mechanical insulation systems.

Through an exclusive arrangement, beginning on January 4, 2010, ITW Insulation Systems is now your sole source for Resolco phenolic insulation which will be sold and marketed under the new name Trymer Green Phenolic Insulation. ITW Insulation Systems will also be your source for all sales, marketing, and technical support for this product. We are confident that combining the proven performance of this product with the service, support, spec-calling expertise, and broad product line of ITW Insulation systems will be a benefit to your sales.

Trymer Green Phenolic Insulation offers the lowest thermal conductivity of any standard material and combines this with excellent flammability performance, closed-cell, and good water and water vapor resistance. These properties make Trymer Green Phenolic Insulation the ideal material for use as pipe insulation on chilled water lines operating in the air plenums of commercial buildings where flammability is the greatest concern but energy efficiency is still important and governed by codes.

At any thickness that might be needed, the flammability performance of Trymer Green Phenolic Insulation meets the strict ASTM E84 25/50 flame spread/smoke developed requirement common in many building codes for pipe insulation located inside of plenums. Its unparalleled thermal conductivity allows Trymer Green Phenolic Insulation to be used at lower thicknesses than other insulation materials while still meeting and usually exceeding the energy efficiency requirements.

In conjunction with our introduction on January 4, 2010 of Trymer Green Phenolic Insulation as our recommended insulation material for applications requiring a 25/50 flame/smoke performance, we will no longer sell or support new batches of Trymer 2000XP for use in applications requiring this performance as of that date. Rest assured that Trymer PIR still meets all the requirements including flammability performance for use in the non-plenum portions of a commercial building. This includes all machine rooms, pipe chases, and vertical risers that are not serving as plenums. We anticipate that 50-80% of existing Trymer 2000XP sales into commercial buildings will be unaffected by this change. In addition, sales of Trymer 2000XP into applications other than commercial building chilled water are expected to be unaffected. This includes all industrial applications, ammonia refrigeration, cryogenic, underground, rooftop, and general refrigeration applications.

For commercial building chilled water pipe insulation systems, the combination of Trymer Green Phenolic Insulation in the plenums and Trymer PIR everywhere else provides a “One-Two punch” that will exceed all energy efficiency and fire safety requirements with an insulation system that is cost effective and resists water and water vapor. Applying Saran CX Vapor Retarder Film and Tape to both the Trymer Green Phenolic Insulation and the Trymer PIR insulations makes an already unbeatable system even better by improving the water vapor resistance without the presence of an ASJ product that is based on thin aluminum foil with a paper backing.

No one is more important to us than you, our direct customer, and we know that you will have some questions about this exciting change. Our customer service, sales, and technical staff would be happy to address any questions you have. In addition, the attached FAQ should help answer your specific questions.

Additional Information

ITW Insulation Systems is committing the full force of its sales and technical staff to making this transition from Trymer PIR to Trymer Green Phenolic Insulation for use in commercial building 25/50 applications a success. This will include new literature, spec-calling, and technical support.

You may be wondering what role Resolco will play now that ITW Insulation Systems is your sole source for Trymer Green Phenolic Insulation. Resolco is manufacturing this product at their new Houston plant, ensuring the excellent performance and quality control, and will have commercial personnel helping drive demand through spec-calling. However, all sales, customer service, and technical support will now come from ITW Insulation Systems.

Product Update - SARAN™ Vapor Retarder Film and Tape    (limited supply of samples available)

March 9, 2009

Dear Fabricators and Users of SARAN™ Vapor Retarder,

We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your SARAN Vapor Retarder Film and Tape business and alert you to an exciting change about to occur.

The SARAN Vapor Retarder product line is about to undergo a small change. The new products will have the same names but with the addition of, “CX” to distinguish them. For example, SARAN 540 Film will become SARAN 540 CX Film and SARAN 520 Tape will be called SARAN 520 CX Tape. The SARAN products will still be considered a PVDC film but the mechanical properties will change slightly.

Features and Benefits of New SARAN CX Products

  • Color – The new SARAN CX product is brilliant white compared to the ivory color of the existing SARAN product
  • Color Change – The new SARAN CX product will “yellow” less than the existing SARAN product when exposed to UV light
  • Modulus – The new SARAN CX product will have more stretch giving it increased flexibility
  • Perm rating – The great water vapor permeance rating of the SARAN products will not change and will continue to meet or exceed industry standards
  • Lighter – SARAN CX tape rolls stay the same length but will weigh less making them easier to handle during application
  • Flammability – The new SARAN CX products will continue to meet the excellent 25/50 flame/smoke performance required in some applications
  • Tape – The new SARAN CX Tape will be less stiff and easier to wrap snugly around fittings without gaps or fishmouthing
  • Tape – The new Saran CX Tape can be torn by hand eliminating the need to cut the tape with a knife during installation

The new SARAN CX products will begin shipping within the next 2 months. Shipments of the existing SARAN Film and Tape will also continue throughout the year as inventory is depleted. Please note that there is a color difference between the new SARAN CX and the current SARAN products. While there will be no performance problems caused by using these two products together on a single job, you will see a noticeable color variation.

We are confident that the changes being made will continue to yield SARAN products that are an excellent choice for vapor retarder applications. We look forward to together growing your and our sales of SARAN CX Vapor Retarder products.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
R. T. Behm

Announcement:  The Pledge to Maintain the Quality of TRYMER® PIR Insulation

July 24, 2008

To our Valued Distributors and Fabricators:

As you are aware, ITW Insulation Systems recently acquired certain assets of Dow Building Solutions Trymer polyisocyanurate(PIR) rigid foam business.

Prior to our acquisition of the Trymer business, we recognized that this product would be a beneficial addition to our product line. We also recognize that Trymer has a reputation for great quality. It is ITW's intention to grow this business through our national as well as international network.

Trymer will be sold along with our current products which include metal jacketing (manufactured in the USA, Canada and India) and perlite insulation (manufactured in Malaysia and Mexico).

We are pleased that all of the manufacturing personnel of the Trymer business have remained as our employees. We continue to make the product on exactly the same equipment with the same experienced personnel that were producing the product under Dow's ownership. The only adjustment to the production process will be the removal of the blue colorant, while the rest of the chemical formulation, which Dow has successfully used for many years, will remain unchanged. Qualty control parameters and procedures have not been changed.

We understand how important this product is to you and we will strive to satisfy or exceed our customers' expectations.
