Re: Product Compliance to Oregon Law Regulating Brominated Diphenyl Ether
As you may be aware, on January 1, 2011 the state of Oregon promulgated a law related to certain brominated diphenyl ether flame retardants. Pursuant to Oregon Revised Statutes 453.005(7)(e), the following three specific flame retardant chemicals are now defined as hazardous substances and it is unlawful for any person to introduce into commerce or deliver for introduction into commerce in Oregon any product containing greater than 0.10% by weight of these materials.
1. Pentabrominated diphenyl ether CAS # 32534-81-9 2. Octabrominated diphenyl ether CAS # 32536-52-0 3. Decabrominated diphenyl ether CAS # 1163-19-5
There are various exceptions to this law but these do not apply to insulation products.
ITW Insulation Systems does not analyze our raw materials for the above chemicals. However, we have contacted our suppliers and they indicate that the chemicals listed above are not used in the
manufacturing or the formulation of products sold to ITW Insulation Systems. In addition, ITW Insulation Systems does not use any of these chemicals in our manufacturing.
Based on this investigation, ITW Insulation Systems states that to the best of our knowledge, all of our insulation, vapor retarder, and metal jacketing products listed below comply with this new
Oregon law related to brominated diphenyl ether flame retardants.
