Rigid insulation requires the right degree of friability for precision fabrication as well as minimal damage during transportation, storage and installation. (Materials with high friability crumble and break easily.) Broken insulation should be scrapped, which increases material costs. Repairing damaged insulation is generally not an effective cost-savings measure, since even if it's repaired, seams and patches create pathways for air and moisture intrusion, reducing thermal efficiency and contributing to high life-cycle costs.
Trymer® Insulation and Extruded Polystyrene Pipe Insulation Billet (XPS PIB) from ITW Insulation Systems feature optimum friability for precision fabrication into various shapes. The durable rigid foams have proven to resist damage on even the most rugged job sites and under the most demanding operating conditions.
The high compressive strength of ITW Insulation Systems pipe insulation products also contributes to their exceptional ability to resist damage. Trymer pipe insulation products are available in compressive strengths from 17 psi to 140 psi (117 kPa to 970 kPa). XPS PIB has a compressive strength of 20 psi (138 kPa).
